MoMA Brings Abstract Expressionism to the iPad

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has a new iPad app for the Abstract Expressionist New York exhibition. The MoMA iPad app is not only done well, but it is also FREE. In the app you can see large images of the paintings, learn about the history of the artist and see videos about the artists.

The MoMA ABEX iPad app is a great way to see and experience abstract expressionism. I just wish art history books could be as engaging as this app. Maybe future art students will use apps like these rather than books.

Description from the app store:

Now you can enjoy highlights from the major 2010–2011 exhibition “Abstract Expressionist New York” and its related publication on your iPad. Use the free MoMA Ab Ex NY iPad App to view superb high-resolution images of selected Abstract Expressionist works. Learn more about the artists and NYC history with a multimedia map of studios, galleries, bars, and other points of interest. Watch in-depth videos on key works of art, browse a glossary of art terms, read about the exhibition and exhibition publication, share your favorite works on Twitter, and more. (An internet connection is needed to view some of the content.)

Download the MoMA AB EX NY app for free.
