Today’s art is by Fernando Chamarelli. Chamarelli’s work includes “mosaic, geometric elements, organic forms and harmonic lines connecting symbols, legends, philosophies, religions and customs of ancient and modern civilizations.”

The complex color schemes and geometric pattern in Chamarelli’s artwork is magnificent. The imagery has a glyph quality reminding me of paintings found on walls in ancient ruins.

Fernando Chamarelli is a UNESP formed graphic designer, illustrator and visual artist.
He started drawing cartoons, caricatures and realistic portraits and later became involved with street art and tattooing.
It is by merging these different mediums that he creates his art.

Many thanks to Art Asylum Boston for introducing me to Kevin Peterson.  Peterson’s paint reveals a sharp contrast between the innocent world of a child and the reality of the world in which they live.

Kevin’s work is about the varied journeys we take through life. It’s about growing up and living in a world that is broken. These paintings are about trauma; fear and loneliness, and the strength that it takes to survive and thrive.

They each contain the contrast of the untainted, young, and innocent against a backdrop of a worn, ragged, and defiled world.

Chris Trueman delivers an explosion of color, line and texture in his most recent paintings. I first featured Chris Trueman’s work in 2008 when his style was more geometric and controlled. While Trueman’s current style still includes geometric elements, the paint is more fluid and energetic.

I absolutely love the artwork of REMED and I have to thank RQM for showing this to me.  RQM is a talented Berlin MC that collaborated with REMED on COLORS FADE, LIGHT GOES ON to create a great mosaic piece made up of 84 7″ records.  REMED feels like an art superstar, slinging out amazing artwork regularly, on the street and in the gallery.  

Remed takes every style past its due date and makes it fresh. Art Nouveau and “Free to be You and Me” graphics of the seventies are made strikingly contemporary. If you were to synthesize into a single body of work, the “New Image” of the early eighties with the graffiti writers who entered the New York art world around the same time. . . . Remed would emerge. Experienced with a limited time frame for execution, Remed solves color interactions quickly and accurately. The English language is manipulated with formidable typographic skill and a vicious sense of style. You know Remed is special when you see his transmutation of the curved arms of the French avant-garde. He’s paid his dues, he’s dubbing over history.

Jim Bradshaw is a talented illustrator from New Jersey with a massive and beautiful collection of work.  Jim’s illustrations mix a vector cartoony style with grungy, dirty textures.

In his latest work, Matthew Hindley explores themes of darkness with his rich oils and acrylics.  These paintings capture figures in a moment of strong emotion leaving the audience wondering what might happen next.

The scenes depicted take on a cinematographic feel – characters are recognisable from painting to painting, brought to life on his large-format work surfaces to face different enigmas in each composition. Within his work, Hindley explores the subtleties of humane darkness, with studio as testing ground for a potential creative utopia.

Formally, while the works are figurative renditions of moments in time, their surfaces tilt towards abstraction, throwing a thin veil over realism in favour of interpretive memory. Hindley explores the generosity of the colour black, creating visual planes as darkly exhilarating as the fundamental schizophrenia of confronting issues of identity, sexuality and death. Schizophrenia also confronts pop culture head-on in his intriguing choice of titles – drawn from a range of influences, from pop song lyrics to fragments of speech found in psychology textbooks to Victorian poetry to Twitter trends.

Ronald Kurniawan draws, paints and sculpts wild and imaginative scenes and characters.

Inspired by ideograms, syllables, letterforms, beasts and heroic landscapes, he slowly but surely continues to create a visual language where the wilderness and civilization could merge happily together. With the belief that the sublime and nuclear age could coexist, he paints romantic environments and breaks the quiet scene with juxtaposed imagery taking the shape of icons and letterforms.

Justin BUA paints the urban culture of NY, NY in vibrant color and beautiful distorted realism. The paintings are rich with detail and each one tells a unique story.

Having grown up a latch-key child in this poor community, BUA’s first canvases were the city walls around him. But with studied appreciation for the classical masters, paper and canvas soon replaced brick and cement.  BUA’s masterful paintings, infused with both the rhythms of the street and classical training, tell the tales of urban life through his cast of city muses.

On March 25th, 2010 BUA will return home to exhibit at POP International Galleries.  The opening is at 8:30 and he will be showing his latest work.  See BUA’s website for more.
