You have seen illustration by Yiying Lu if you have visited Twitter when it is over capacity. “Lifting a Dreamer” aka “The Fail Whale” is displayed with a brief message by Twitter when the service is overloaded.
I first discovered Lu did this illustration a couple of years ago when I started a twitter account for @todayinart. Not only did I dig the illustration, but I also felt it worked great as an error page. I featured the Fail Whale on Today in Art at that time, but did not consider the rest of Lu’s artwork for the post. Lu’s illustration is clean, flat with no texture and bright with selective use of color. The color palette for her illustrations is usually limited to 2 or 3 colors and each one feels like a mini narrative, playful and light in nature.
