Working in several different mediums, Olve Sande builds, paints and constructs finely calculated, architecturally inspired works of art. Many of Sande’s pieces are inspired and derived from patterns of thought and/or behavior.
An unwieldy landscape of substantial structures need to be negotiated past, puzzled over, and even selectively eschewed, on the way to their discovery. Each work is bound-up with secrets, its meaning unclear. Perceptions are further tampered with as views are altered. On close inspection the mind runs a little rampant, with abstraction and utility vying for dominance and logic surrendering in the struggle.
Fragmented constructions – hard and cold, rigid and warm, rough and smooth, waltz with soft and fuzzy while the petite hover nearby. Colour is overall denied or restrained. Sombreness reigns, concealing a private sort of beauty. Undecipherable text and scattered images in black and white, serve as windows to an adjacent realm, bouncing their own thoughts back and forward, interacting with the works in the space while hinting at another kind of fantasy land.
