Untitled (orange,blue) - 84" x 108", acrylic on canvas

Chris Trueman delivers an explosion of color, line and texture in his most recent paintings. I first featured Chris Trueman’s work in 2008 when his style was more geometric and controlled. While Trueman’s current style still includes geometric elements, the paint is more fluid and energetic.

THE FANTASTI 4 vs PUREEVIL - Spray and acrylic on wall

I absolutely love the artwork of REMED and I have to thank RQM for showing this to me.  RQM is a talented Berlin MC that collaborated with REMED on COLORS FADE, LIGHT GOES ON to create a great mosaic piece made up of 84 7″ records.  REMED feels like an art superstar, slinging out amazing artwork regularly, on the street and in the gallery.   (more…)

Parasitic Installations by Dennis Feddersen

dark matter #01 - 800 x 650 x 450 cm / PVC, Styropor, Tennissaite, Schrauben

dark matter #01 - 800 x 650 x 450 cm

Dennis Feddersen thinks big and his sculpture truly invades the space it occupies.  Indoors or outside, his sculpture installations force their way into view as they overtake the surrounding environment.  There is an uncomfortable beauty that I find in these installations as they seem playfully dangerous.

I was famous last night, wood, 158 x 75 x 28 cm, detail

I don’t know much about Gehard Demetz, but his sculptures are phenomenal.  These wood sculptures are masterfully cut and Demetz allows voids in the wood to add to the pain reflected by his characters.

Michelle's Place

Michelle's Place - from Grand Theft Auto IV - Oil on cradled wood panel 30" x 30"

There is nothing new about artists taking inspiration from other created works, but there is something here worth discussing.  People tend to connect with landscape or cityscape paintings of places they have seen before and that is part of the beauty in them.  A painting of the Streets of Charleston is going to connect with me in a way that it cannot connect with someone who has never been there.

Children’s Stoves – Oil on Linen 40 x 60

I crossed paths with Patrick when I featured one of his T-shirts in my post, 25 T-shirts for Artists and Wannabes. I later found out that Patrick is also a talented painter.  Patrick’s paintings are rich in exaggerated color depicting typical suburban American scenes and adding a bit tension it.

Degraw Street Mural, Brooklyn, NY :: Spray Paint & Latex Acrylic 60′ x12′

Damon Ginandes, a Brooklyn based mixed media artist, paints elaborate compositions of portraits intermingling with one another.

Devoid of context and stripped of external identity, they are portraits of souls – ageless, anonymous, and solitary. Their longing stares serve as a mute communication from which a distinct visual and psychological intimacy emerges.

Rusty Swingset - by Jeff Soto
acrylic on wood panel

I am a big fan of Jeff Soto and love seeing his characters interacting with one another in his paintings.  So when I got his email about his new show I was excited to see some new work.  His show will be opening Thursday night, May 14 at StolenSpace Gallery in London.
