How did I miss that Pablo Picasso did light drawings? LIFE Magazine has a wonderful collection of photos showing Picasso creating light drawings. I apologize if you have already seen this, but I didn’t realize that Picasso was an early light drawing artist. From my earliest years of drawing, I have always been in awe of Picasso’s work. It is exciting to see work by him that is so new to me and I am astounded at how ahead of his time these are.

Living somewhere between kinetic sculpture and conceptual robotics, Theo Jansen’s creations are just as visually interesting as they are from a functional perspective. Since I first featured Theo Jansen on Today in Art, there have not been many new photos added. Recently, new photos of Jansen and his creatures have been uploaded. This is exciting and I can’t wait to see where he goes with his work.
Thomas Emmet is not only a successful commercial Illustrator, but he also has a solid collection of personal work. The images shown here are from his conceptual collection. Most works in this collection include a figure or figures in a rich, complex environment with an abundance of imagery and texture to digest.
After getting an iPad, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Brushes and Sketchbook Pro. Both of these apps are really nice on the iPod and iPhone, but I had not taken to them like I had hoped. I found that the screen size was crippling for me and this was too great a hurdle for me to overcome. The iPad is a much better tool for drawing since the size is closer to the size of a sketch book. The iPad also has more room to include app menus and options.

Joshua Callaghan has a body of work that is always on the move, working with many materials and methods to create his sculpture. His images applied to public utility boxes is the first work that caught my eye. I loved how “camouflaging” these ordinary eyesores made them more noticeable and intriguing.

Michael Johansson’s sculptures are so tightly compact and organized that the individual items begin to lose their identity. At first glance I think I see and understand all of the element. But, after a longer look I find a shape I did not recognize is a chair, a coffee mug etc.

Chris Trueman delivers an explosion of color, line and texture in his most recent paintings. I first featured Chris Trueman’s work in 2008 when his style was more geometric and controlled. While Trueman’s current style still includes geometric elements, the paint is more fluid and energetic.

I absolutely love the artwork of REMED and I have to thank RQM for showing this to me. RQM is a talented Berlin MC that collaborated with REMED on COLORS FADE, LIGHT GOES ON to create a great mosaic piece made up of 84 7″ records. REMED feels like an art superstar, slinging out amazing artwork regularly, on the street and in the gallery.
